AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has said that the Rossoneri found the best in themselves to secure the vital Champions League victory against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
Speaking to Milan TV (via Milan News) after the game at San Siro, the English midfielder showed just how thrilled he was with the 2-1 victory that came with goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud in either half.
It was a sold-out San Siro that made plenty of noise and that was something that clearly had an impact on the former Chelsea player: “Hard to describe when the stadium sang ‘The Champions’ with the anthem.”
Milan were in a very dire situation when it came to the Champions League group stage, knowing that a defeat would almost certainly see them knocked out. Loftus-Cheek was well aware of what was needed.
“It was a must-win game, we had to win to have a chance of qualifying. We have confidence going forward now,” Loftus-Cheek said.
He also explained that sometimes it takes a really big match for a team to turn its fortunes around, and that is what happened for Milan.
“When you are in difficult periods you need a big match to recover, tonight we brought out the best in ourselves. We have a talented group, we want to continue like this,” he said.
